A wonderful holiday

This Christmas has probably been the best one that I can remember thus far in my life. The greatest part was getting to spend the holidays in my own home with my husband! It was over way too fast! We were blessed with way too many presents that we are so thankful for and excited about!

Hal and I have stayed busy the entire time that we have been off, and unfortunately Hal has to go back to work tomorrow.

Last weekend Hal and I spent the time preparing all of the last minute things for Christmas. I baked a 3 layer coconut cake that I am very proud of! On Christmas Eve we went to my parents house for supper. We had finger foods and tons of dessert. My mom cooked enough food for her entire neighborhood to eat twice! Later in the evening we went to the 11:00 Christmas service at church which is always a great time. Hal and I got home and were in the bed by 12:30am!

Tuesday, I got up and cooked breakfast for my parents at my house. It was nice to have them over to MY house for a change! Later that afternoon we went to Hal's parents' house for supper. Hal's mom cooked a beef tenderloin and it was WONDERFUL! We had a great meal and fun time with his family, and ended the night with a couple of UNO games, as usual.

Wednesday we went and cashed in our gift cards for some necessities and came back home and got to work! We had 2 rooms in our house that still hadn't been painted, so we used our Lowe's gift card to buy our paint and finish the job. We got started painting early Thursday morning and finally finished yesterday afternoon.

As soon as we got done painting yesterday afternoon, we went and bought our dining room set. We are supposed to get it on Monday, and I can't wait to finally have my house fully furnished!

Today, I have spent the entire day cleaning my house from top to bottom, and organizing all of the things that needed to be put back into their correct places. While we were painting, our house looked like a tornado had come through, so I am happy to say that my house is spic and span again!

Like I said before, Hal has to work tomorrow which is a major bummer, because the last 7 days with him have been wonderful! He gets off on New Years Eve, but then has to be back at work at 7:30am on New Years Day. Unfortunately we won't be able to go big for New Years this year, because he has to work so early.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and a happy New Year!

Exciting announcement!

Something very exciting happened over the holidays that I am delighted to share! My sister-in-law, Anna, got engaged. Her boyfriend, Todd, of six years proposed on December 27th, and we are all so excited!

They will be getting married sometime in the spring, and moving to Hawaii where Todd will be stationed for the next three years.

We are all very excited to have Todd as a part of our family!

Congratulations Anna and Todd!

Oh so ready for a break

I have one more day of work and then I am off for 11 days. I cannot tell you how glad I am to have this little break! I am so ready to get out of this office and break up the monotony of my job!

Hal has been home all week so that has been a nice treat for me! On Tuesday night, my parents, Hal, and I went out to look at Christmas lights. We had such a fun time, and laughed almost the entire time!

Yesterday was an exciting day for Hal. When I got home from work, we went to Lowe's and bought him a lawn mower! We haven't had one since we moved into our house so we have been borrowing between our parents. When we got home with it, of course he had to cut grass. He got himself a Troy-Built push mower with a Honda motor, and he is thrilled!

Tonight, I have a few little things left to pick up for Christmas, so I am going to try and battle the traffic with patience while I wait for Hal to get off work. I really am ready for Christmas! Can you believe that this time next week it will all be over?

This weekend is a busy one for us (well, me) trying to prepare for the couple days of Christmas. Monday we will spend the day with my family and then Tuesday we will spend the day with Hal's family.

I can't promise there will be much blogging involved over the next week, so I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and a joyful holiday with your families. Just remember JESUS is the reason we celebrate!

Merry Christmas!

Pillow update

After my little pillow rant the other day, I have been looking for another new pillow. Last night I had to run to Wal-Mart to pick something up, and I decided while I was there I would look at their pillows.

I actually think I may have found a good one this time...and I didn't lay on the floor to find out!

I got a great night's rest AND my neck, head, nor my back is hurting today! I only paid $4.88 for the pillow, and I am thinking I got a great deal on a great pillow.

I will update you if it starts to bother me again!

A good and restful weekend...

I have to say, I am kind of glad to see this weekend go. Hal has been on night shift and tonight is his last night. I will be so glad to go to bed with my husband for the next 2 and 1/2 weeks!

Since Hal has slept most of the weekend, I have found time to rest and get a lot of things done!

On Saturday morning, I woke up really early to be at the gym by 8:00. Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you, I finally gave in and joined the YMCA again. I got the student discount for only $20/month so it didn't hit me in the wallet as bad as I thought it would. Anyway, the Y was having a "Christmas Cardio" from 8:00 to 11:00, and I decided to kick off my gym membership by attending. We started off with Spin at 8, then step, and kickboxing at 9. At 10 we did upper body, abs, and yoga. It was a great workout, and I know for sure it was, because every muscle in my body hurts today. Thats okay, though, because I am sure that I burned at least 5,000 calories while I was there!

Last night I hung out with Hal until he went to work, then battled the rain with my mom, and went Christmas shopping. I am proud to say that ALL of my shopping is DONE!

This morning, I woke up so sore, so I decided to skip church and sleep in. I know, shame on me, but I felt I needed the rest. I slept really late, then got up and finally got my laundry tackled while Hal was asleep. After Hal and I ate supper, he went to work, and I got to work myself. I wrapped all of my presents, and now they are all under the tree! I am happy to say that I am READY for Christmas! Only 8 more days, y'all!

I have to work the 5 days of this week, and then I am off for 11! Hal and I have already made big plans for our time off!

Oh yeah, another thing, I took my last exam Thursday night and I am done with school for about 4 weeks!

Hope y'all had a great weekend!

Pillow talk

I have a pretty serious problem, and I am desperate for some help!

(this is going to seem silly, but I am being serious!!)

I need your help finding a great pillow, one for my bed, where I rest my head every night!

I am such a freak about pillows, Hal and my parents will tell you. I will find the perfect pillow and use it for 4 or 5 years just because its so hard to find great pillows. Well after 4 or 5 years of sleeping on a pillow every night, you know they turn into pancakes. When Hal and I moved into our new house, I gave in and said that I would get rid of our old pillows (tear) and buy new ones. This was hard for me to do, because I knew that it would take a lot to find a good one. After what was a very hard time, putting my pillows in the trash, I began my search to find the perfect pillow.

Here is the reason I am a freak. I cannot just go into a store and feel of a pillow with my hands and know that its a great pillow. I actually have to LAY on it. So I get down in the floor of the store and lay on the pillow to find out just how great it is. This is actually a great method, because I can tell right away when my head hits the hard floor, if its good or not.

So I went to 3 or 4 places looking for pillows and was having no luck. Finally I went to Target and had some luck. They have their pillows organized by firmness...soft, medium, firm, and extra firm. I am not big on laying on a concrete block for a pillow, nor do I like to lay on a really soft pillow. I chose the medium pillow, and got down in the floor to test it out. Yes, I laid on the hard, tile, dirty floor at Target. You have to do what you have to do, right? So I tried it out and it was great; it was perfect actually. Not too hard, not too soft, just right for my tastes.

I brought my pillow home and had a great night's sleep for about 2 weeks. The pillow was perfect, and then all of a sudden it went flat! AFTER TWO WEEKS! All of the stuffing that was inside has mysteriously disappered, and no amount of fluffing can bring it back. I might as well be sleeping without a pillow!

For the last couple of weeks I wake up and something is always hurting. If its not my head, its my neck, and if its not that, then its my back. I am getting really frustrated.

I need to find another great pillow! Can you please help me? Maybe a good name brand, or a place to go that has a nice selection? I am desperate!

Thanks : )

I need your help...

One of my cousins just found out that she is pregnant. She took a pregnancy test this past weekend that came back positive.

She thinks that she may be farther along than first expected because her clothes are already becoming tight and she is already wearing maternity pants from a previous pregnancy.

She had made herself an appointment for her annual check up at the gyno for the end of January. When she called her doctors office to tell them that she had gotten a positive result for pregnancy, they told her that it wasn't urgent for her to come in, and that she could just wait until the end of January. There are 7 or 8 more weeks until her appointment.

Is this normal, or should she be going somewhere else? This just sounded very odd to me, but I have never been pregnant before, so I wouldn't really know.

I thought that as soon as you found out you are pregnant, you go to the doctor for confirmation blood tests, ultra sounds, etc. Am I right?

I need your help with this one! I just don't think this is right!? Please let me in on how things went for you.

Thanks a ton!

Fun at the ZOO!

On Friday night Hal and I went with our friends Chad and Loren to Hollywild Zoo to see the Christmas lights and to feed the animals. We had such a blast, and we were the envy of ALL the other cars! Loren's dad gave us some of his deer corn to feed the deer and we had them ALL eating right out of our hands. It was such a fun time!

the 4 of us at the zoo:

I love these cows, they are the biggest Holstein cows I have ever seen!

Hal likes the camels. Did you know they have really long eyelashes?

He made a new friend...that was trying to chew on his coat.

the sweet zebra, seriously it was really sweet!

all of the deer were crowded around OUR car!

the bucks were fighting over our food.

I love that Hollywild lets you interact with their animals so closely. All of the animals are really sweet and docile. It really was a great time!

Another RANDOM Thursday

I have no ideas for my Thursday 13 today, well actually, I have been too busy at work to think about it, so I just thought that I would tell you 13 random things happening in our lives right now.

1. After my post yesterday, I was determined to be more productive last night. I went home, took a quick cat nap, then headed off to take my anatomy test. After I got home and we ate supper, I started on my Christmas cards. I got six more done! Hal really helped inspire new designs for the cards, too.

2. Tomorrow is Friday, Hallelujah! Hal is off all weekend!

3. My last day of Microbiology is TODAY! I have really enjoyed this class but I am so glad its finally over!

4. I got 2 of my Christmas gifts bought today, courtesy of the World Wide Web! YES!

5. My company Christmas party is Saturday night at Chophouse 47. I am really looking forward to some good food and good wine!

6. I am getting very excited about my nursing clinicals. It is finally becoming real! I just recently turned in my application for clinicals at USCS and have to turn in my application for clinicals at Gville Tech after Dec. 15. I should hear something by March, and I can't wait!

7. Did y'all know that Tommy Bowden was offered the head coaching job at Arkansas with an annual salary of over $2 million? After contract negotiations with Clemson, he decided to stay put. My personal opinion: good decision!

8. Like Meredith, I am battling with my hair right now. I really don't know what to do. My hair is so long and I love it, but sometimes it just OUT OF CONTROL! I have more than enough to donate to Locks of Love, but I am just not sure I am ready to cut it ALL off again!

9. I have found myself going without makeup more often than I wear makeup lately. I actually feel good about how my face looks with only mascara and lip gloss. Hal prefers it that way too.

10. Hal and I are finally seriously considering getting a dog now that I don't have class at night. I will keep you updated on this, as we make further decisions.

11. Football season is almost over, and I really don't like basketball!

12. We get our FREE ham at Sam's this Sunday! Thanks Michelin!

13. Did I mention how glad I am that tomorrow is FRIDAY! : )

Just plain tired...

Do you ever have one of those days where it takes everything you've got to get out of bed? Today has been one of those days. The last four months of constantly going and going has really caught up to me, and I am just plain tired! I am in desperate need of a break. God bless all of you mommies out there, you must run on Energizer batteries!

Since this week at school is going to be more laid back, I went to the grocery store on Monday night and bought enough groceries to cook for at least 7 days. Well, Monday night I cooked eggs and waffles that took like ten minutes, last night Hal had frozen pizzas in the oven when I got home, and tonight, although I will get home very early, a frozen lasagna is all that I am capable of. I promise I will get back to cooking and a normal schedule one of these days.

There are things piling up, waiting on me to do them, but lately I have just not had the energy. I can't wait to rejuvinate over Christmas break so that my normal self will be back and better than ever.

Here is my to do list for the next week:

1. Finish making Christmas cards. I have 16 made and we are sending out about 30, I need to get on the ball!
2. STUDY! I have 3 exams in the next week, but I'm DONE after that!
3. Buy Christmas gifts. I haven't even started.
4. Plan a baby shower for my sis in law.

Okay, so its not really THAT much to do, but I keep putting it off and everything is just waiting to get done. I feel like if I go home tonight and take the opportunity to rest, I will have the next 4 days and nights to focus on completing my list of things to do.

I hope you're having a good day!

Share time

Well I don't have much going on today, but I did have a few little things that I wanted to share.

* My sister-in-law, Anna, is moving to Hawaii in June. Her boyfriend just got his orders from the Marines and he is going to be stationed in Hawaii for the next 3 years. They are going to be getting married in the spring, and they will be leaving for Hawaii in late May or early June, I think. I am going to miss her like crazy!

* I saw a bumper sticker yesterday that really summed up my feelings about abortion. The bumper sticker read "It is a child, not a choice..." Perfectly said. I am sorry if I have stepped on your toes, but I have never hidden the fact that I am very conservative in my beliefs.

* I saw a quote today that I really liked and wanted to share. "Stop telling God how big your storm is and tell the storm how big your God is." Isn't that GREAT?

* I can't hardly believe there are only 21 more days until Christmas!

The thought of quitting

My first semester back to school winds down in just 3 days and boy am I glad. There is always great relief that comes at the end of a semester, but this year I am experiencing it more so than ever.

The first reason for my relief is very simple. I really do not like going to class 4 nights a week. I have done it without hesitation, but I will NEVER do it again. I never get home before 7:30 on any night that I have class, and this usually means that I don't cook. I feel less than adequate because I can't cook for Hal like I used to. It usually ends up being frozen pizzas or something quick that I throw together, and I just don't like that. On top of that, I hardly ever feel like cleaning when I come in, so the house stays a mess until the weekend. I really feel like I am neglecting my husband and I hate that feeling! Next semester I have class one night a week, I think he can do without me for that long!

The second reason for my anxiety, and the reason for the title of the blog, is that I do not like dealing with Greenville Tech. Hal and I made the decision when I decided to go back to school, for me to go to Gville Tech for a couple semesters so that we could save money. Well let me tell you, it has not been worth it at all. Here is what I have been dealing with:

At the beginning of the semester I was told that I qualified to receive lottery money towards my tuition. That was great because basically my tuition was cut in half! They told me that since I didn't apply until late in the summer, I would have to pay the full tuition and I would receive a refund check with the difference. I was told that the checks were issued 30 days after the first day of class. The first day of class was August 20th and to this day I have not received my refund check! In the last 4 weeks I have left 2 phone messages with financial aid and paid one visit to the business office. Each time, one office would tell me I needed to speak with the other office. WHAT? I got a BILL in the mail Friday telling me that next semester's tuition was due TODAY, and the lottery money was not applied. After mumbling a couple of ugly words under my breath, I decided that I was going to go sit in front of the financial aid office today until someone would help me get to the bottom of this. I waited 45 minutes and my name was finally called! I go back to the office of Juanita, my angel at Gville Tech. She explained to me that the financial aid office had supposedly never received my transcripts from USC and that they couldn't process my aid. I told her how I could prove that my transcripts were received and BAM! it was done. My lottery money was processed and added to next semester's tuition and I was good to go.

Of course I would never quit, but I won't lie, the thought did cross my mind. I have been very patient during this whole process, but today I lost my cool. I thought about the kids who are just out of high school who are dealing with this same process. It is enough to make you think about quitting, because it really doesn't seem worth the hassle.

Every single legal thing I have had to do at Greenville Tech this semester is such a commotion! I am ready for this semester to be over, and thankfully I only have 3 more days! I feel I definately deserve a 4 week break!
